Highlight.io

A discontinued all-in-one session replay, error, and log tool that shut down on February 28, 2026 after LaunchDarkly acquired it.

Discontinued; successor LaunchDarkly Observability is usage-based

What it actually does

Highlight.io was an open-source-core observability tool that combined session replay, error monitoring, logs, and traces, with a free tier of around 500 sessions. It let a solo founder see a replay of the user session tied to the error and logs from the same request.

LaunchDarkly acquired it in April 2025 and deprecated the hosted service on February 28, 2026. app.highlight.io no longer accepts new data, and the migration path routes you into LaunchDarkly Observability, a feature-flag platform priced for teams.

Nobody new should sign up in 2026. It remains in this reference only to flag the shutdown for people following older recommendations. The same ground is covered today by Sentry (replays included free) or PostHog.

Worth it for
  • Was a capable all-in-one: session replay, errors, logs, and traces with a ~500-session free tier
  • Open-source core meant you could self-host if the hosted price got out of hand
  • Its team and technology live on inside LaunchDarkly Observability for existing LaunchDarkly users
Watch out for
  • The hosted service was deprecated on February 28, 2026; app.highlight.io no longer accepts new data
  • Every operational competitor beats it on the only row that matters now: it is shut down and accepts no data
  • The migration path forces a LaunchDarkly account and SDK swaps, moving you onto a feature-flag platform priced for teams
